Ballerina Pink What will she become
122 x 91.5 x 4 cm, bee, Mixed media collage fabric and paper, oil on linen canvas
This portrait of a girl in ballerina costume in a pink abstract garden with fabric flowers, contemplates what will she become. Set in this ballerina costume and pink surroundings already notes the gender expectations we put onto girls.
The typewriter written text is collaged on with words around this theme which is the loop of the path of the bee. I found this dead bee and wanted to include it in this piece to make a comment about the issues around climate change and the declining bee population. No bee were harmed in the making of this work.
This original artwork on a linen canvas is protected with a clear primer so the texture of the linen canvas piece is a feature in this work. This canvas is a modern thick edge canvas that you can hang as is for a contemporary look or frame the painting as desired.
